DATES:  CLASSES BEGIN AGAIN on WEDNESDAYS from September 18th to December 18th. The Classes continue on 8th January and break for Easter on 25th March. I will try this year to ensure that the classes continue through the summer with another teacher.

When you arrive at 21 Winchester Road,  sign in at the reception desk then make your way up to the first floor.  Turn left left at the top of the stairs and you will find the Mandelson Room.   There are toilets where you can change.  Bring all your belongings into the room.

Every  Wednesday the class is a gentle and meditative  for Elders and for anyone  who would like to dance in the daytime.  For those who need low impact movement there is no pressure to do more than you can.......there is no need for any dance/physical experience, nor do you need a any standard of fitness, and there will be chairs to rest on or dance from.  Whatever movement you can make is welcome.  Beginners welcome. Wheelchair access.

Although the class is  90 minutes long;  this gives everyone  time to be able to relax/meditate as well as dance without the rush of fitting everything into an hour.  It will also give us time to talk without looking at the clock.... we start slowly and have a slow and meditative track after approx 35 minutes leaving enough time to rest and then begin again!  soi what do we do?

We move,  we give our bodies attention; we become aware of our possibilities and our limitations. We can sit or lie on the floor and we can dance. If you love to sway to a beat and haven't got enough room in your kitchen - come and join us and move on a beautiful floor in the company of others who want to let their feet dance. Gay has taught Conscious dance since 2001.   Elements of 5 Rthythms and Open Floor have inspired her to offer you a dance of many colours, moods, connections and rhythms as well as being in a congenial group.  We often go to the Centre Cafe upstairs after the class to contin ue our connections over a cup of something....

Your will very welcome to join us.

I have been teaching Conscious Dance (basically when you are aware of and move from your body) for nearly 20 years and teaching and holding classes for older people for 10 years...I am 77 and love this practice and am looking forward to bringing it to Blackheath....there are no steps to learn, nor judgement from me.  It de-stresses, energises and keeps you supple and fitter.  I encourage you to dance just for the pleasure  of it....and in doing so help your physical self to be mobile, supple and de-stressed.

2nd Session - Connection to another self

3rd Session - Connections with a group - all my selves..and others

This is a series of 3 classes and the class on 1st December explored - or began to explore our connections to ourselves and how our dance can be affected by our views of self.  We questioned how we look after ourself, and shared information on that.

In the next session we will explore some of the other "selfs" who live in our bones, our emotions and our minds.  What affect do they have on our lives?  Do the experiences we have had keep repeating and hoilding us down or back?  Are they of use to us?

These sessions use this form of conscious dance to encourage us to change old patterns and bring in new ones.....we bring out the  old dances and change them, letting the dance become an agent of change.

Please join us for our second exploration, it may sound serious and hard work but it is a joyful journey and apart from all the above it is a wonderful opportunity to dance freely and just enjoy.
