|
What to Expect |
|
Most 5Rhythms® classes begin with a “warm up”. This is an
important part of the class; it is time for students to open the door on the
possibility of meditating on their physical selves; by stretching their bodies,
sensing their feet on the ground, breathing more deeply and being aware of their
physical surroundings.
There are no expectations as to how you move into this physical state; sometimes
it can be easy, at other times very difficult to leave behind the thoughts that
take up so much space and energy in our lives. All I ask is that you try and let
your mind rest and that your focus is on the physical you; the movement of your
body and the space around you.
The “warm up” usually lasts (in a two hour class) for approximately
thirty minutes. What distracts a class are voices and latecomers...if you really
need to talk please leave the room for a few minutes and if you are late come in
and get into your own “warm up” as soon as you can.
Sometimes there will be a space for words after the “warm up” –
the teacher will welcome the class, maybe put a word into the circle as a theme for
the class. Any injuries can be mentioned here. Then there will generally be a
“body parts” meditation led by the teacher and from this the class moves
straight into the study of the 5Rhythms®. As this is a physical practice,
students are urged to keep some part of themselves moving even if their energy
becomes low.
Each class is different, and yet the framework remains very much the same for it
is us, the dancing beings, that are changing all the time.....
Classes usually end with a circle and words may be invited at this point. Bring water, layers of clothes, shoes suitable for dance and your curiosity....... |
